I got denied by discover credit card due to not having a green card.
They said, it is just their policy that they won't give credit cards to
people who don't have green cards.
I could't co-sign my friends student loan application as i did't have a green card. They said, i have to be Permanent legal resident to co-sign.
Though i have a mortgage now, my first mortagage application got denied on same grounds.
Apparently fannie mae guildelines stipulates that H1B(foriegn investment) needs to put 60% down to get a mortgage loan.
But most of the lenders do mortgages anyways even for the people who does't have a ssn:).
Discover Card is a bit picky...I applied a second time around and they approved it.

Go for GC , not career. You can get good career whenever you want, but you cant get GC whenever you want. Once you get GC you can apply for 150k job wherever you want, any company you want. With h1 you cant do that.

This is my GC application history
1. PD for Labor - Aug 2003
2. Labor(Regular) Application Approved - Nov 2005
3. i-140 applied in Jan 2006
4. RFE received question was for company not self, i-140 withdrawn.
5. Transferred my H1 to the companys sister concern and reapplied for i140 in June 2006.
6. Applied for i140 premium processing on June 22nd, 2007.
Current status for i-140 : Recieved and pending at Nebraska service center.
Questions
Q1. What is i-140 receipt date for premium processing. Is it the date the fed-ex package is recvd by USCIS or is it a date issued by USCIS that should reach my lawyer?
Q2. If in case the USCIS need to provide my attorney a receipt date, we have NOT received one as yet. Does that mean they have not even looked at the application as yet?
Q3. Can i apply for i485 in the worst case that i do not receive approval for i140 by Aug 17th under the concurrent filing rule.
Any assistance would be highly appreciated.

Well said guys.....I do not know why this thing hangs around me with me having EAD. EAD is just like GC with some restrictions. Why should I worry?

According to USCIS Ombudsman 1/3rd of cases are pending more than 1 year due to namecheck. Also there are many cases stuck for more than 3 years. E
I think that 1/3 of PENDING cases have been stuck for more than one year, not 1/3 of all cases. Trust me if 1/3 of all cases were stuck for more than one year, there would be a huge outcry

If one transfers H1 after I140 approval, employers should have no reason to withdraw the I140. Unless ofcourse for revenge :)
Right now, a lot of big companies withdraw I140 and reuse the labor for another applicant. With the new law in place, employers have no motivation to withdraw the I140.

In fact the act of withdrawing also costs money which many employers would not be willing to pay...

This is one of the most funniest post I have seen today. Great job. You should send this classification to USCIS and ask them to process cases based on the number and color of dots each member has. Forget about EB1, EB2, and EB3. :D
Well.. the good news is that according your classification, no one is being deported or is a criminal. That's a relief. :D

Yes, it is possible.. However you can apply for extension for one year only. If your I-140 is approved, you can apply for extension for 3 years.
I suggest the following:
1) Apply for your I-140 at the earliest. There is a possibility that your I-140 will be approved before end of May.
2) If I-140 gets approved by end of May, apply for H1B extension for 3 years
3) Else apply for I-140 extension for 1 year based on your approved Labor
Is it possible to get 7th year extension on the basis of approved LC and pending I-140. My approved LC is PERM filed in March 2006 and approved a week ago. My 6 years oevr in Sep 2006.
Anybody in the same situation?

The reason for rushing the application is that it could retrogress midway during the month of July. It may seem unlikely but you never know. That's one reason to file it as early as possible.
But i did not know the attorney would like to file it in June for me. I just wanted to find out if anyone's sent it early and received receipt.
It doesn't matter if it retrogress midway during the month of July, USCIS must accept ALL otherwise eligible I485s filed by July 31. While Priority Dates could retrogress say in August, USCIS will adjudicate I-485 applications that were filed prior to retrogression only if the individual�s Priority Date is current at the time they review it. For example, if your Priority Date is EB-3 06/01/2006 and the August 2007 Visa Bulletin retrogresses that category�s date to 04/02/2006, USCIS will continue to hold your pending I-485 but will not process it until your 06/01/2006 Priority Date becomes current again. Therefore, one�s Priority Date (the date the Labor Certification Application was filed) will likely again supercede the filing date of the I-485. Point 1 also make sense if I apply for premium COS for self with future date say 6 weeks from now as effetive date for H1, after i come to know it is approved in 2 weeks time I will get my family here on L2 before effective H1 date and then apply for there COS thru regular after they are here, my last question here is is it possible to apply premium COS specifying future date as effective to start working on H1

There is no box for A#. The fields are - Receipt #, Case Type (I-140), Receipt Date, Priority Date, Petitioner, Notice Date, Page (1 of 1), Beneficiary, Law firm's name and address, Notice Type (Approval, Preference category).
This was around April 2006. Maybe they changed the format?

If I were you, I would send a letter with the facts. I do not see a downside to this. On the upside, if the employer decides to settle you could potentially get some of your money back.
